I don't want to grow up... (my answer to the negative comments on goth style)
Begierde made this very interesting post about "Gothic style" in Fashion. Her post was submitted for the front page. It appeared with a different picture than the original.
If I were her I would be really angry. She's so pretty in her dress (in the original one)
I've read the answers on the lovelyish version...
One of the answer is "grow up"
"people need to grow up. That's so... middle school."
"20..okay, 40? eh. Grow up."
"i liked to dress goth... in 7th grade. leave it in junior high. grow up."
What? If growing up mean that you HAVE to look like everybody, then I don't want to grow up
And you know what? I'm not even goth....

I never want to grow up. I already feel a lot older than what I am. It's overrated.
I'm gothic (thank you Mercredi for the nice comment :) ), and I want to grow up. In fact, I'm grown up since I'm 21. NO more a teenager.
But I don't want to become someone else, someone dull.I'm goth, well. And I'm vegetarian, so maybe people would make me change because they are not pleased by my choice ?Why would have to change to please others and be like the majority ? Is it becoming adult, not to make any choice of life ?
In fact, how work the majority ? Does they all wear same clothes, like the same things ? No. There are girl more "girly" than others, more classy or more hippies, without problem. Some like football, other rap music, other rock music. But when it comes to something that other don't like because they saw it pointed out on TV, or can't feel good with it, it's bad . I'm asking about who had to change of mind sometimes.
I don't feel I am a 21 years old girl. I never go out all night long, binge drink all week end and like parties (no more than 5 parties a year ). I always tought of me "adult", with a work, babies, a garden and a lover. I think that's why I'm so unhappy. I never was a real teenager, the way they show on TV, cinema and like my friends.
At 21, I just begin to feel myself. I have a boyfriend, my University degree, a flat, animals whereas many of my friend are struggling to get their dregree and are single. It's their choice, but I think I'm more likely to reach my ideal than they are.
Because I go far away of my parents, in a new city, have to work, have to study by myself... it makes me feel "adult" and good with myself. No more a teenager : a young women who try to make a living, to built her own life. (it's a theory, don't know if I would do this, and feel pretty depressed most of the day).
brrrrr growing old... I hope it will be as I want !
@Begierde - Je sais que t'es adulte! juste que si c'est ça leur vision d'etre adulte "uniformisation"...
You are more "grown up" that all the people that say "grow up"
it makes me think of little children that say
"I AM NOT A BABY" (chuis paaaaaaas un bébé!!!) At 4 year old.
You have to be proud of yourself. don't change (or change if you want to loool)
I was just reallllllllllly surprised by all the negative comments that contains "grow up" I even prefer those who say "it's ugly at any age" at least it's an opinion of the style loool
but the article was about age I know...
@Mercredi - becomeing an adult seem to mean : "faded up not to make any waves". I think that we are- the new generation of young adults- not so prompt to conform ourself of the dull life they want us to live.
i agree ...to each his (or in this case her) own ;)
I agree with you! I don't like the mentality that you've gotta be like everyone else. You don't have to be the same, you don't have to be different, you just should be yourself, no matter what that is! :)
All I can say about maturity and wardrobe tastes, I personally believe with the social advent of perpetual adolescence--and how it's seriously impacting society as a whole, if this is what's 'deemed' as adulthood, then I will have no part of it--especially with regards to whatever's deemed as good fashion sense, since I'm the kind of person who rather have maturity defined by character, not so much the clothing, so yeah, I'm not a believer of clothes making the man!
